INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

We are seeking students, primarily from the Consortium institutions, who are interested in applying for internship opportunities. We are committed to placing students in all of the federal agencies where the needs of the students and of the agencies can be most effectively met. Agencies such as the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency are eager to review the applications of promising future 'scientists and engineers'. Internship service can be advantageous to students who are interested in careers in Environmental Research and Development fields.

Agencies that have participated in granting HBCU/MI internships are the Department of Labor, the Department of Energy, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Interior, The Department of Education, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, The Environmental Protection Agency, and the Central Intelligence Agency. We will continue to obtain commitments from these agencies to include internships in their plans.

The NAFEO Internship Program provides opportunities for students attending ETC member colleges and universities to:

  • work at government and semi-governmental agencies;
  • meet executive and senior staff officers;
  • engage in meaningful dialogue, learning experiences, and interactions with both federal and higher education officials;
  • enhance campus-based learning experiences;
  • expose the federal agencies to a culturally diverse group of students from historically black colleges and universities;
  • enhance career employment opportunities potential

Interns are recruited through a nomination process, through advertisement at the respective member colleges and through ETC's web page. While there is an attempt to place all interested students, those that have a 3.0 grade point average or above tend to fare better in the selection process.

Requirements for selection are:

  • Completed Online Application.
  • A 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Two recommendations from faculty.
  • Official transcript
