The Historically Black College and University/Minority Institution Environmental Technology Consortium (HBCU/MI ETC) consists of 17 universities, throughout the nation, that have come together to encourage Blacks and other minorities to pursue careers in environmental sciences, research, engineering, technology, waste management, and related areas.

The Consortium was formed to address limited minority participation in public, private and non-profit environmental industries; limited environmental awareness among minorities; and increase the number of minority environmental technology-based businesses.

Consortium members train students at the undergraduate and graduate levels in environmental technology, hazardous, solid and mixed waste, materials management, environmental restoration, environmental health, and related areas. The overall goal is to prepare minority students for careers in this exciting field.

Another of the Consortium's primary goals is to expand institutional development in environmental education and research, and to increase interaction between HBCUs/MIs and majority universities, industry and interest groups.

The Consortium is funded by the Department of Energy and managed by Howard University in collaboration with the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO). HBCU/MI ETC members include:
