A hearing was held on the future of historically black colleges and universities. Topics included the financial challenges facing traditionally black colleges and universities, the need for renovation of their campuses, particularly in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and ensuring that students at these colleges have the same opportunities as students at other colleges.
