The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) is pleased to submit these comments to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in response to its request for comments regarding its proposed new Comprehensive Broadening Participation of Undergraduates in STEM (CAP-US) Program. The program is designed to catalyze next generation capacity to produce a diverse STEM workforce with 21st century knowledge and skills. We are pleased to make this submission on behalf of the 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and roughly 50 Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) that form the NAFEO membership base. At the outset, we commend the National Science Foundation, the United States Congress and the Administration for continuing to grapple with the vexing challenge of how to prepare more, and more diverse, globally competitive and globally engaged students in the sciences, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM). |
